Jumping Beans

Thank you for considering supporting the Alabama Kidney Foundation. 💚
We named our team the Jumping Beans 🫘 because that's exactly how grateful we feel! We're celebrating almost five years since our life-changing kidney transplant journey together, and we remain forever thankful.
------
⚠️ Unfortunately, many others face a more challenging path. Thousands of people are waiting for kidneys, relying on dialysis while enduring daily hardships we were fortunate to avoid.
------
🌟 Your support makes a real difference! Every dollar helps provide vital resources and relief for patients and families navigating kidney disease.

👇 Our Story: 👇

Brian and I want to share our story in hopes that it might help someone else.
------
2020 was indeed a unique and challenging year. My husband, Brian, and I received tough news: Brian needed a kidney transplant. Doctors prepared us for the difficult journey ahead, including the long wait many experience for a kidney to become available. They also explained the advantages of living kidney donation. I wasn't sure if I'd be a suitable donor but was determined to find out. If approved, we could potentially participate in a "paired exchange," where incompatible donor-recipient pairs swap kidneys to achieve compatible matches.
------
After paperwork, interviews, and testing, I received wonderful news—I was approved as a donor! We celebrated clearing that first hurdle.
------
Then came truly AMAZING news: Brian and I discovered we were a direct match! I could donate a kidney directly to him! The cheers, tears of joy, and overwhelming relief are memories we'll cherish forever. Surgery could finally be scheduled!
------
But suddenly, everything stopped—it was March 2020, and the world entered the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. All transplant surgeries were put on hold. Tick-tock, tick-tock.
------
Finally, the call came: Piedmont Hospital was cleared to resume transplant surgeries.
------
July 10 became our lucky day. Although nerve-wracking, the surgery went smoothly, thanks to our incredible medical team. The transplant team encouraged walking for recovery—I was up walking that same day of surgery, eager to check in on Brian. Soon enough, Brian joined me, taking long walks and even hiking trails, activities unimaginable before the transplant. He had regained his vitality.
------
And here we are in 2025, feeling incredible and deeply grateful.
------
Many others aren't as lucky and are currently enduring the hardships of dialysis while waiting for a transplant.
------
We're joining the Alabama Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk, helping to raise awareness and funds to support dialysis patients and their families. Please consider contributing to our fundraiser or simply helping spread awareness.
