This Year I am privileged to be patient chair.

My name is Jason Morris, and I’m a 39-year-old resident of Clayton, Alabama. In 2012, I was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease. At that time, I did not need dialysis right away, but by 2013, I began weekly treatments that continued for over nine years.
I applied to transplant lists early on, but it took several years before I was officially accepted. By the time I made it onto the list, the estimated wait time had grown from five years to ten or more. It was discouraging, but I tried to stay focused on what I could control.
Throughout this period, I leaned heavily on the support of my family and close friends. Their encouragement helped me stay active and maintain a positive mindset, even when things felt uncertain. I often found myself asking, “Why me?” or “Why this?”—but I reminded myself that this was just a challenge I had to work through.
Then, on April 1, 2022, at 9:15 AM, while I was in the middle of a regular dialysis session, I got a call that changed everything. At first, I thought it might be an April Fools’ joke, but thankfully, it wasn’t. That moment was profoundly humbling and marked the beginning of a new chapter.
Now, at 4 years post-transplant I am incredibly grateful for this new lease on life. God is good, and I am forever thankful for the support and the opportunity to continue living.
“Our team, Second Chance, is proud to be a part of the Wiregrass Kidney Walk Celebration each year, supporting vital programs that help local dialysis patients receive the assistance they need."
Every dollar I raise will advance Alabama Kidney Foundation's great cause! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too. This Year I am privileged to be patient chair.
